Lithuania has lost a true and loyal friend - Honorary Consul Ivor Geoffrey Feinberg
The Honorary Consul of Lithuania in South Africa Ivor Geoffrey Feinberg passed away on 4 June 2022, in Johannesburg. He has served as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania since 22 July 2005, for nearly seventeen years.
Feinberg was an outstanding Honorary Consul and an exceptional personality. Energetic and passionate about his work, he has dedicated almost two decades to developing and strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Lithuania and South Africa. He assisted Lithuanian citizens, businesses and the Lithuanian diplomatic service, especially in those years when Lithuania did not have an Embassy in South Africa. Feinberg contributed greatly to promoting Lithuania’s positive image in South Africa.
We remember with deep gratitude Feinberg’s efforts in helping to establish the Lithuanian Embassy in South Africa in 2015 and his support to the Embassy throughout the process. Ivor was open and sincere, had a great sense of humor, was a true friend, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Ivor Geoffrey Feinberg was decorated with the Cross of Officer of the Order for Merits to Lithuania on 11 March 2022 at the Independence Day of Lithuania celebration event in Pretoria. The State decoration of the Republic of Lithuania was awarded to Feinberg for his distinguished service promoting the name of Lithuania as well as assisting Lithuanian citizens and the Lithuanian diplomatic service by the decree of the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.
