MEMBERS OF LITHUANIAN DIASPORA IN ISRAEL BUILDING BRIDGES TO THE MOTHERLAND
The establishment of the Israeli-Lithuania Friendship Association ISRAELITA was officially announced during the formal celebration. Founders of the ISRAELITA are new generation of Litvaks, emigrants from Lithuania who came to Israel during the past few decades. A leader of ISRAELITA, Mr. J. Katz read a declaration establishing the Friendship Association. The Declaration stresses that "the only possible way of the restoration and consolidation of good relations between the two nations is friendship and cooperation." ISRAELITA aims to develop a comprehensive cooperation between the countries in order to contribute to the mutual cultural, sport and artistic links, to develop science, industry and business contacts, to promote a favorable presentation of Lithuania in Israel within close cooperation with all organizations that aim to bring closer both countries.
Ambassador D. Degutis read the greetings sent by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania A. Kubilius which emphasize that "we are committed to keep up the current endeavours and we very much appreciate the contribution to the overall mosaic of our history by the Jewish Community of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Jews living in Israel and worldwide, and by each “child” of Lithuania. The present-day Lithuania, like Israel, is a young, dynamic, vibrant country with much untapped potential. I am convinced that by pooling our efforts, ideas and creativity, we can achieve much for the benefit of our two countries, for their friendship, prosperity and wellbeing."
Members of ISRAELITA association addressed the Lithuanian society and called to establish an analogous organization in Lithuania. "Together, in close cooperation, developing various areas of partnership, we will strive to contribute to our two peoples and countries for further prosperity.”
During the festive celebration formerly famous Lithuanian rock band "Raganiai” performed.
