The European Union Emergency Travel Document (EU ETA) will replace the personal return certificate
From 1 December 2025, the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter referred to as the consular offices) will issue a European Union Emergency Travel Document (hereinafter referred to as the EU ETA) in the event of an urgent return to Lithuania.
The EU ETA will replace the personal return certificate issued by consular offices so far and will be issued in the event of loss of a passport or personal identity card abroad, when the document becomes invalid or damaged, and in other cases specified in legal acts.
It is important to note that from 1 December 2025, when applying to a consular office for the issuance of an EU ETA, an application for the issuance of an EU ETA is submitted electronically through the Lithuanian migration information system MIGRIS.
