WESTINGHOUSE HAS PRESENTED THEIR PROPOSAL TO INVEST INTO VISAGINAS NPP

On 23 June, a delegation of Westinghouse and its parent company Toshiba have presented their proposal to invest into the new Visaginas NPP Project during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius, the Commission for the implementation of the new Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Project, representatives of the European Commission and the regional partners – Latvia, Estonia and Poland. As previously announced, the Westinghouse Electric Company had submitted its proposal to invest into and develop the Visaginas NPP Project.

“I am happy to welcome one of the leading nuclear technology companies – Westinghouse and its parent company Toshiba, and I am pleased by their expressed interest to participate in Visaginas NPP Project as a strategic investor”, – has said the Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

Andrius Kubilius has also noted that the proposal presented by the Westinghouse delegation demonstrates that the potential investor takes the Visaginas NPP Project very seriously.

The regional Visaginas NPP Project is one of the most advanced new nuclear developments in Europe. The preparatory works of the Project have already been completed, including the Environmental Impact Assessment and site suitability evaluations, the results of which have obtained positive IAEA evaluations.

The new Visaginas NPP is planned to be put in operation by 2020.
